Movement Menu eZine - February 2011

Welcome image

One-by-one we get to know each other on and off the dance floor, and when we put our shoes back on and step into the default world we take the lessons learned in motion and try to put them in practice. The dances we participate are powerful metaphors for life, and within them we encounter questions of self, others, and community.

When is it safe to open ourselves to others? Where do we draw the line and establish boundaries? How do we respect ourselves by giving good 'no' in a kind and loving way? These are the kind of questions that come up in the dance of life that are well reflected by personal inquiry and introspection. We are fortunate to be in the company of others who ponder the gift of life in many similar ways, and can offer insight into the territory we all encounter as individuals. As artists of consciousness and movement we have the opportunity to be in service to one another and the highest ideals of the whole. With appreciation for the present moment we can move beyond the limitations of the ego and expand into an awareness of the depth and beauty of the great mystery of life. As we travel along our paths let's ask ourselves – what can we do to serve? ~M.M.

- All the best, from the Conscious Dancer team!

Heartbeat: 5Rhythms Workshop with Kathy Altman

Heartbeat: 5Rhythms Workshop with Kathy Altman

Where: Sacramento, CA. Coloma Center
When: March 18-20
Cost: $260 through Feb 25; $325 after Feb 25

Watch young children, and you will see open hearts in action as every delight or disaster dances freely through their bodies. By the time we reach adulthood, we have often lost the ability to express our feelings honestly and heartfully, to allow emotions to move through our bodies without festering or getting stuck. We then wonder why we’re longing for deeper intimacy, why our vitality is constrained and our passions go unlived.

Heartbeat is for anyone who wants to transform the weight of old feelings into fuel for creativity and ultimately compassion. In this work we invite the energy of our feelings to come out and dance. We use the 5Rhythms to access, release, and even enjoy the ocean of our own emotional waves.

A minimum of 12 hours of instructed 5Rhythm practice is recommended before registering for this course.

Coming from out of town? We have beautiful sleeping bag space for you!
